The Land Rover Discovery.

The Land Rover discovery has a lot live up to. The previous model was known for its reliability, off road durability, space and comfort. How does the new discovery live up to its predecessor?

It certainly looks good: with a chrome front air grill and flared wheel arches it has a slight sporty feel.

The discovery has always been big. This gives the car both advantages and disadvantages. The first advantage is that you can fit a small congregation inside it. The discovery will seat 7 quite comfortably. You can also stick your prized ewe in the boot if you don’t use all the seats. The rear seats also fold away for addition room, effectively turning this church into a Cathedral. The downside to its size is that it is less fuel efficient and all the environmental nuts will throw their organic sushi at you when you pass.On a practical note this sticks the discovery in the L tax band and it produces 244g/km worth of CO2 emissions.

With a large windscreen and added height, your view out of the window is one of the best on the road, short of a truck. There are a plethora of storage spaces and the minimum of clutter from buttons as there’s a hand touch screen interface.

The engine sizes start a 2.7 litres however you can get a much more suited 3.0ltr twin turbo version. The Discovery is very heavy so it can be a little sluggish at times however; it is fine at a cruise. The turbochargers can be a bit noisy at times but they are much better than they were on the last model.

All models come with Air conditioning, Bluetooth, electric windows and Keyless start-up and entry. Up-spec models come with wood panelling and a high end sound system.

This is a reliable work horse and will do its job while you lap it up in its luxuries.

Prices start around £33,000 and go up to £44,000. On contract hire, according to Whatcar magazine, it should cost around £479 a month.
